Peer Assistance

The course recognizes that interactions with classmates and others can facilitate mastery of the course’s material. However, there remains a line between enlisting the help of another and submitting the work of another. The course’s academic honesty policy endeavors to characterize both sides of that line.

The essence of all work that you submit to this course must be your own. Collaboration on assigned projects is not permitted except to the extent that you may ask classmates and others for help so long as that help does not reduce to another doing your work for you. Generally speaking, when asking for help, you may show your code to others, but you may not view theirs, so long as you and they respect that policy’s other constraints.

To that end, this space is a place for students in the class to, synchronously, solicit and receive help from others in the course consistent with the above guidelines and the academic honesty policy writ-large. For asynchronous assistance, turn to Ed. For synchronous assistance from the course’s staff, turn to office hours. This space, however, is available to students at all times. The staff does monitor activity in the space to ensure reasonable behavior. Acts considered not reasonable by the course are handled harshly. If the course refers some matter for disciplinary action and the outcome is punitive, the course reserves the right to impose local sanctions on top of that outcome that may include an unsatisfactory or failing grade for work submitted or for the course itself.

Schedule

The peer assistance space is generally available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, due to some limitations of Zoom regarding simultaneous meetings, it is possible that during a scheduled office hours session, this room may be temporarily unavailable, as the office hours will be prioritized.
